Beemer Qualifies for Jr. Nationals In the 100 Hurdles

FORT COLLINS, Colo. ? A trio of Buffaloes recorded top honors at the Colorado State Ram Open on Saturday afternoon in the final tune-up before the Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
Brianne Beemer qualified for the U.S. Junior Championships in the 400-meter hurdles after finishing first with a time of 61.84 seconds. The time was a personal best and is the fastest time recorded by a Buff in the event this season. It also ranks ninth in the Big 12. Beemer has already qualified for the championship in the heptathlon along with teammate Katie Dreher. Joi Windham was second overall in the event. She raced to the second best time by a Buff this season with a mark of 61.96
Dyamond Seay was first in the 400. She broke the tape in 57.06 seconds. Kevin Waldron was the other Buff to record a first-place finish; the only to do so in a field event. Waldron tied a season-best mark in the javelin with a toss of 175 feet, 9 inches.
Colorado swept the top four places in the javelin. Todd Ipsen was second (130-02), Jake Timmons took third (122-02) and Eddie Taylor placed fourth (117-06).
Allison Sawyer was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 11:45.88.
Several more Buffs earned third-place finishes at the meet. Adrian Gomez clocked a time of 53.53 in the 400 hurdles. Chase Dukes also took third in the hammer throw after recording a toss of 185-00. Jake Timmons tied for third in the high jump with a PR of 6-05.50. On the women's side, Katie Dreher was third in the triple jump after recording a PR of 36-07.00, which is the longest by a Buff this season.
CU assistant coaches Casey and Lindsey Malone also competed in the meet and took top honors in their respective events. Casey recorded a throw of 202-00 in the discus and Lindsey reached a height of 5-08.75 in the high jump. Volunteer assistant coach Emily Pearson also competed in several events. She was second in the 100 hurdles (14.10), 200 (25.07), 400 (58.49) and javelin (141-09).
Laura Thweatt was the lone Buffalo to compete at the Oregon Twilight meet on Saturday night. She took 11th overall and finished with a time of 17:15.36.
The Buffs will travel to Lubbock, Texas for the 13th Annual Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 15-17.
