WALNUT/AZUSA, Calif. – It was a very busy but successful day for the University of Colorado track and field team as the Buffs competed at the Mt. SAC Relays and the Bryan Clay Invitational on Friday.
The sprinters had a great showing at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays. Holland, who broke CU's record earlier this season (23.54), finished 12th in the open section of the meet. She also ran in the 100 and placed 22nd (11.74).
Junior Eileen Gehring and senior Lindsy Mattson had a nice performance in the 400 with both clocking in under 55 seconds. Gehring placed 11th in 54.84, while Mattson had a season best run of 54.89 to take 15th. The women's 4x400-meter relay placed third with the 10th fastest time in school history. Mattson, Holland, freshman Tashay Brown and Gehring combined for a time of 3:39.15.
The men's group also saw success. Sophomore Austin Mitsch and senior Shaw Gifford both tallied personal records in the 100. In the distance events, senior Sara Sutherland won her section of the 1,500 in 4:18.30, finishing .41 seconds in front of Florida State's Georgia Peel. The time put her eighth on CU's all-time performers list.
Junior Maddie Alm recorded a 30 second PR in the 5,000, clocking in at 16:14.97 for third in the invitational 'B' section. (Alm's previous PR was 16:45.03.)
