Colorado Runs Strong Times across Nation
March 30, 2019 | Track and Field
BOULDER – The University of Colorado track and field program posted strong times across the nation in both the Texas Relays and Stanford Invitational.
Â
Madison Boreman led a group of women in the women's 1,500 in Stanford. She placed fifth in her heat, running 4:22.70 which would've been good for third in the nation before this weekend. She was not alone as Karina Mann won her heat earlier in the day in a time of 4:24.76. Mann's time would've been fifth in the nation before this weekend. Also in the race, Olivia Brooks and Annie Hill both ran 4:31.
Â
In the men's 1,500, freshman Gabe Fendel came out of his redshirt campaign and opened his season with a 3:45. 78 to win his section. His time, like Boreman's, would've ranked third in the nation before this weekend. Eduardo Herrera also ran in the race, running 3:50.80 to place ninth in his heat.
Â
In the women's 5,000 invitational, Makena Morley placed seventh amongst some of the best runners in the nation. Her time of 15:43.37 would've been good for third in the nation before this weekend. Tabor Scholl raced in the women's third section in the event with Holly Bent, with Scholl taking the section win in 16:14.84. Bent ran 16:40.95 to place 17th. In San Francisco, Baylee Jones also ran the 5,000, finishing fourth in her heat in 16:51.29.
Â
Across the nation at the Texas Relays, Gabby Scott highlighted the sprinters, jumpers and throwers with a third place finish in the women's 400 hurdle finals. Her time of 58.29 was just two-hundredths of a second off of her personal best. She will join Eriana Henderson, Dani Johnson and Valerie Welch tomorrow in the women's 4x400 relay invitational.
Â
In the men's 4x400 prelims, Duane McClurkin Jr. anchored a strong CU relay team that ran 3:10.29 to qualify fourth for the finals. McClurkin Jr. will join Jon Maas, Kendal Smith and Aaron McCoy tomorrow in the finals. Both McClurkin Jr. and Maas ran in the 100 prelims as well, running 10.43 and 10.63, respectfully, but missing out on the finals. McClurkin Jr.'s time is good for eighth in school history.
Colorado returns to action tomorrow to conclude both the Mike Fanelli Track Classic and the Texas Relays. The team was scheduled to compete in the Tom Benich Invitational at Northern Colorado but the meet was moved to Sunday.
