Colorado Falls to No.48 Utah

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Colorado women's tennis team suffered a 4-3 loss to No.48-ranked Utah here Saturday to conclude the regular season.
The Buffaloes (10-13, 3-7 Pac-12) fall into a tie with Utah (13-10, 3-7 Pac-12) in the conference standings, leaving the standings to a result between Washington and Washington State. If Washington wins then Washington State will fall into the three-way tie for seventh where Utah will have the upper hand with wins against both teams. CU will fall to eighth in the conference with a win against Washington State, setting up a battle between the two in the first round of the Pac-12 Championships next week. If Washington State prevails then CU will have a rematch with Utah next week.
Colorado struck early by winning the doubles point. Ky Ecton and Tallulah Farrow took care of the No.3 doubles match by a score of 6-3, but Utah tied it in an unfortunate 6-3 win between No.81 Brianna Chisholm and Madison Tattini against No.20 Monica Malinen and Annabelle Andrinopoulos. The doubles point came down to a tiebreaker in the No.2 doubles match with Sara Nayar and Megan Forster prevailing for the 7-6 win.
With the first point scored Utah began to trade points with CU to a 2-2 tie. Lindsay Hung took the first singles match against Forster, 6-3, 6-4 to tie the match. Ecton dropped the second set 6-4 in the No.6 match but secured the second team point with a pair of 6-2 sets in the first and third. In the No.5 singles match Whitney Hekking defeated Farrow 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
Utah took the lead after Tattini defeated Malinen in the No.2 singles match with consecutive 7-5 sets. The battle between No.100 Nayar and Chisholm took three sets as well after Nayar opened with a 6-4 set win. Chisholm dominated the second by a score of 6-1, but Nayar persevered through and took the match 6-4 in the third set.
The final deciding match was another dog fight with Emily Dush earning the clinching win against Andrinopoulos. The two women swapped 3-6 sets with Andrinopoulos winning the second. Dush rallied ahead and clinched the match with a final 6-4 third set.
