Four Buffs Earn Regional Qualifying Marks At Mt. SAC
April 14, 2006 | Track and Field
WALNUT,
Bolf recorded a qualifying mark of 4:24.63 on the women's side. She finished fifth overall and was second in her section. Pasciuto recorded a time of 4:26.90, coming in 14th overall.
On the men's side, Vaughn and Chiulli also qualified for the regional competition. Vaughn took 10th overall and finished fourth in his heat with a mark of 3:46.31. Chiulli recorded a personal record while finishing 11th overall (3:46.54). He also finished fifth in his section, just over two-hundredths of a second behind Vaughn.
“Today was not as conducive of day as yesterday for times,” head coach Mark Wetmore said. “It's been rainy, less than perfect conditions. So the times (the regional qualifying marks) weren't as fast as we were hoping for today. Fast times were a luxury, but it was a necessity to get the qualifying marks today.”
The rainy conditions also caused problems in the throwing events for the Buffs. It messed up the throwing circles and made for rougher than normal conditions, causing several of CU's throwers to earn lower marks than normal.
Andy Passen took third in the shot put with a toss of 53-1.00. It was the best throw for any Buff this season, but was not far enough for the regional qualifying mark of 55-1.50. Ryan Willis took 13th (48-0.00) and James Begley came in 14th (47-6.5).
On the women's side, Carly Newlands placed forth overall in the shot put with a throw of 43-4.25. Cortney Hutmacher earned a 16th-place finish in the hammer throw (144-8).
Yesterday, Jenny Barringer earned a regional qualifying mark of 16:15.23 in the 5k. Kalin Toedebusch earned a mark of 17:16.54, also in the 5k, and Blaine Hoogenboom threw the javelin 164-2.
