Beemer and Dodson Qualify For Finals At the Air Force Invite

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. ? The University of Colorado track and field team advanced 12 to the finals of the 200, 400 and 800-meter runs at the Air Force Invitational on Friday.
Brianne Beemer and Jeremy Dodson each recorded first-place finishes in the qualifying rounds of their respective events. Beemer broke the tape in the women's 800. She crossed the finish in 2 minutes, 18.01 seconds and will race in the finals on Saturday.
Dodson led a group of CU sprinters in the 200 qualifying rounds as four made it through to the finals. Dodson's mark of 21.36 was the best in the field. Ryan Campbell was third, clocking a time of 21.62. Dodson's younger brothers, Quinton Dodson and A.J. Whitaker, tied for eighth and also qualified for the finals on Saturday with a mark of 21.92. The times were broken down further to determine the seeding; Quinton's time was 21.911 and Whitaker finished in 21.919.
Several other Buffs qualified for races on Saturday. Adrian Gomez recorded a personal record of 48.87 and was fifth in the prelims of the men's 400-meters. Stephen Kasica qualified for the finals in the 800 by finishing seventh overall (1:57.60).
On the women's side, Veronica Maul qualified for the finals in both the 200 and 400-meter dashes. She was eighth in the 400 (58.03) and 10th in the 200 (25.74). Dyamond Seay also qualified for both finals. She was ninth in the 400 (58.32) and sixth in the 200 (25.31). Cassie Hirschfeld rounded out CU's qualifiers for the 200. She was eighth overall and finished in 25.66.
Jerome Perkins ran in the unseeded section of the men's mile and placed sixth overall. He finished in 4:53.16. Patrick Bachmann led CU in the weight throw with the third best toss by a Buff this season at 51-09.25. He placed 12th.
The Air Force Invitational will conclude on Saturday. The field events start at 9:30 a.m. with the men's and women's long jump. The track events will start at 10 a.m. with the women's 5,000-meter run. Members of the CU distance and throwing squads will also compete at the Husky Classic in Seattle on Saturday.
