Gomez Records Meet Record In 400 Hurdles

BOULDER ?University of Colorado sophomore Adrian Gomez recorded a meet record at the Second Annual Front Range Classic on Saturday afternoon at Potts Field.
Gomez clocked a personal record of 52.69 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles to surpass the former meet record of 53.43. His time was just shy of the regional qualifying time of 52.40. On the women's side, Brianne Beemer won the 400 hurdles by running a time of 1:03.48. The time was a personal best and tied for the fourth best run by a Buff this season in the event.
Allison Sawyer also earned a first-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. She clocked a time of 11:11.21, just missing the regional mark.
Alyssa Frank tied for first in the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 5 inches. She tied with CSU's Jennifer Lehman and Wyoming's Johnna Jeffries as all three passed the height on their second attempt.
Brandin Williams notched a runner-up finish in his event, the men's javelin throw. He recorded a toss of 197-01 in his second throw of the morning.
Quinton Dodson had a busy day as he picked up a silver and bronze medal. He placed second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.78 and was third in the 200 with a mark of 21.86.
CU assistant coach Casey Malone competed in the men's discus throw. He recorded a toss of 206-07, his fourth throw of the day and took first overall.
Colorado State won the women's team title with 161.5 points while Air Force was the runner-up with 147.50. CU's women were fifth with 75 points. On the men's side, Air Force won with 197 points to CSU's 153. The Buffs took fourth with 63.50 points. Several of the Buffs were not able to compete at the meet due to the start of finals on Saturday.
The Buff will travel to Lubbock, Texas for the 13th Annual Big 12 Outdoor Track and Field Championships May 15-17.
