Buffs Have Successful Outing at CSM Twilight Meet

GOLDEN, Colo. - The University of Colorado track and field team had its final tune up before the Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday at the Colorado School of Mines Twilight Invitational.
The Buffs had a good outing and were lead by Laurisa Canini. She was the only Buffalo to record a first-place finish in her event after recording a jump of 5 feet, 5 inches in the high jump. The mark surpassed her former PR of 5-03. CU's Sally Page took second in the event after tying her PR of 5-03 and Kathleen Majewski earned a share of third place with a jump of 5-01.
For the second time in two weeks, sophomore James Nixon recorded a height of 16-00.75 in the pole vault, tying his PR from a week ago. He placed third overall behind a pair of vaulters who reached a height of 17-00.75.
CU had several runner-up finishers at the meet. Danielle Reagin was second in the long jump with a leap of 17-02.75 while Tyler Thompson was the men's runner-up in the event (22-07.75). He was also third in the triple jump (45-02.25). Brock Emory ran to a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.69. All of those marks were personal bests.
The Buffalo throwers also performed well at the meet. Molly Potter led the women in the shot put by taking second with her best toss of 41-10.75. Chynna McCall took third (41-04.25) and Emily Hunsucker took the fourth position (40-10.25). McCall led the women in the weight throw (50-10.75) and Kaity Kark launched a third-place throw of 46-11.75.
The men were led by a season-best performance in the weight throw from Trey Mullen, who recorded a second-place finish with a toss of 55-08.35, surpassing his previous PR by almost two feet. Patrick Bachmann was third overall (55-02.25). In the shot put, Michael Field and Dane Chobanian tied for third (48-00.75).
Colorado will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, February 26 and 27 at the 2010 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships. Iowa State will host the meet at the Lied Recreation Center in Ames, Iowa.
