Buffs Earn 11 First-Place Finishes At Potts Invite

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado garnered 11 first-place finishes at the Potts Invitational on Saturday at Potts Field in Boulder. Amberly Casey earned a pair of victories in the triple and long jumps. Casey recorded a jump of 19-8.25 in the long jump and notched a personal best with mark of 39-4.50 in the triple jump.

 

Carly Newlands earned a first-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 45-4.25. She also took second in the discuss throw (136-2) behind Olivia Korte of the Air Force Academy who tossed for a mark of 165-7.

 

Allison Hawes earned her first career victory as a Buff with a time of 2:26.47 in the 800-meters. Jackie Sturm recorded a second, third and fourth-place finish. She finished second in the 100m race (personal record of 12.40), third in the 200m (25.49) and was fourth in the javelin with a personal best throw of 160-0.

 

On the men's side, George Pincock won the 200m race with personal record of 21.06. Sam Napp finished third (21.41) and Lionel Lawson Jr. recorded a time of 21.92 to round out the top five.

 

In the 400m, Chris Abuan took top honors with a time of 48.27, while Nate Terry turned in a third-place performance (48.49).

 

Kenyon Neuman earned his first individual crown as a Buff as he won the 1500m in 4:00.31. Teammate Chris Pannone finished just two seconds behind Neuman at 4:02.37 for second place. Erik Heinonen recorded a fourth-place finish (4:04.17).

 

Brandon Johnson broke tape in the 400m hurdles. He recorded a time of 54.26.

 

In the field, Hugh Charles jumped 24-5 to win the long jump. Andy Passen recorded a throw of 52-8.75 in the shot put to win the event.

 

The Colorado men dominated in the relays. The ?A' team took top-honors in the 4x100 and the 4x400 and the ?B' team recorded a second-place finish in the 4x100 and was third in the 4x400.

 

The Buffaloes are off until the end of March or the beginning of April. On March 31, part of the squad will head to the Cardinal Invitational at Palo Alto, Calif. The rest of the team will head up to Greeley, Colo. for the Tom Benich Invitational.
