Four Buffs Take Top Honors At CU Invite

BOULDER ? The University of Colorado track and field teams recorded four first-place finishes on Saturday at the Colorado Invitational at Potts Field. Liza Pacsiuto, Carly Newlands, Anthony Chiulli and Pete Janson lead the Buffs in their respective events with top honors.

Colorado dominated the 800-meter run in both men's and women's sections. Pasciuto broke tape first on the women's side with a time of 2:15.05. Christine Bolf took second and came in at 2:16.19. Chiulli used a personal best time of 1:49.98 to win on the men's side. Stephen Pifer also recorded a pr of 1:50.43 and took second. The Buffs placed four other men in the top 10. Daniel Kenney finished fifth in 1:52.10, Derek Winton took sixth (1:52.92), Brent Vaughn notched an eighth-place finish (1:54.02) and Kenyon Neuman finished 10^th (1:55.83).

Janson recorded a time of 9:23.28 in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Teammate Payton Batliner took third with a mark of 9:30.24.

Newlands had a good day in the field as she earned first in the shot put (46-10.25). She also notched a fourth-place finish in the discus throw (147-11). Cortney Hutmacher came in fifth in the discus (138-00) behind Newlands.

Several Buffs also took second-place finishes besides Bolf and Pifer. Jenny Barringer recorded a time of 4:32.17 in the 1500, while Chris Pannone also took second in the men's 1500 with a personal record of 3:56.98. Blaine Hoogenboom was the runner-up in the high jump. He recorded a jump of 6-6.

Kalin Toedebusch and Seth DeMoor each took third in the 3000 while recording pr's. Toedebusch recorded a time of 10:14.85 and DeMoor earned a mark of 8:46.87.

James Begley set pr's in the shot put and the hammer throw. In the shot put, he took sixth with a mark of 50-5.50 and in the hammer throw; he notched a mark of 165-2 for eighth place.

Earlier today, the CU men's 4x200-meter relay finished 11^th at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. Seniors Sam Napp and Brandon Johnson, junior George Pincock and sophomore Nate Terry competed in this event, which was the first time that the University of Colorado men's track and field team had done so all year. They finished with a mark of 1:26.74.

The next event scheduled for the Buffs is the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif. from April 13-15.
